The U.S. Senate by a vote of 51-50 passed its version of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” Like the House version of the budget reconciliation bill, it contains deep reductions to SNAP and Medicaid.
Preliminary estimates show the Senate version cuts nearly $200 billion from SNAP—realized through cost-shifting to states, increased work requirements and limiting the ability to update benefit levels—and more than $900 billion from Medicaid.
Together, the proposed cuts would reduce critical SNAP support by between 6 billion and 9 billion meals each year for neighbors facing hunger and could lead to at least 8 million people losing their health care coverage from Medicaid alone.
Now the House will now quickly proceed with a yes/no vote on the bill expected before July 4; no further amendments are expected. We have a very limited window to influence the final outcome of this legislation. Due to provisions that would impede access to food and health care and worsen hunger in America, we are calling on all lawmakers in the House to oppose this bill. Democrats are opposed to the bill and should be thanked for their support.

In Washington state, the most crucial vote is that of US Rep Dan Newhouse. Please call his Capitol office at 202-224-3121 to ask him to vote no on cuts to SNAP & Medicaid.
